Reiza Studios Inks Partnership With IMSA For Automobilista 2

With endurance racing set to be a focus for 2024, Reiza Studios have announced a sizeable partnership with none other than IMSA: Automobilista 2 will see the arrival of additional tracks and cars run in the series.

Reiza Studios ended 2023 on a high note, releasing Le Mans and the Endurance Pack Pt. 1 DLC on New Year’s Eve. The December Dev Update talked about how endurance racing would be a focus moving forward, including historic Le Mans content. First was the present, however, with three IMSA GTP and four current-gen GT3 cars being introduced to Automobilista 2.

If you liked this content already, get ready for more like it: Reiza has struck a partnership with IMSA for Automobilista 2, meaning more cars and tracks are inbound. “Content is always the big flashy thing. We are happy to have closed the partnership with IMSA”, said Reiza Founder and Lead Developer Renato Simioni to OverTake/RaceDepartment.

Automobilista 2 IMSA Content: “Pretty Much Entire 2024 Season Represented”

This means that “we’ll have pretty much the entire 2024 season represented”, Simioni continued. “And we are closing in on some deals with manufacturers to have most of them represented.” A rather exciting outlook, considering the rising popularity of the real series and the circuits it runs on.

As for cars that are currently running the IMSA season, only the Acura ARX-06 and the Lamborghini SC63 are missing from the GTP category in AMS2. For the GTD – so GT3 – classes, additions could include the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R, Lexus RC F GT3, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo 2, Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, Ferrari 296 GT3, Ford Mustang GT3 and Acura NSX GT3 Evo22. Meanwhile, none of the Oreca 07 or Ligier JS P217 LMP2 racers are in the sim.

Simioni is excited for the IMSA partnership, stating that “it is looking good that we’ll have a sizeable representation of the grid throughout the year.” When can sim racers look forward to new content, features and other goodness? “The plan is for v1.6, with more coming after that”, said Simioni. The next milestone update looks to be on track “towards summer”, according to Simioni, who adds with a smile: “My New Year’s resolution was not to give time estimates, because I tend to fail miserably with that. They are hard to assess at the best of times.”

IMSA Content With Next Milestone Update

The next big update to Automobilista 2 is not only going to introduce new content, however. Simioni shared a few improvements and features to look forward to, including a revamped UI, which is set to be “a big step up, more powerful and customizable as well as more aesthetically pleasing.” More physics improvements (Simioni: “They are always a priority, and there is always room to make things better”) and “developments on the audio front and the shader front to make the game look fresher” are also underway.

Circling back to the endurance-based content, AMS2 should also see new features catering to the discipline. Specifically, the option for limited tire sets and delays after crashing out (meaning you cannot simply teleport back to the pits and go out immediately again) are in the works.

But hold on – wasn’t there classic Le Mans content also coming up? That is indeed still coming up, but most likely a little further down the road, as the Automobilista 2 IMSA partnership takes priority for now. The fact that sim racers can look forward to the most in-depth first-party representation of IMSA outside of iRacing should absolutely make up for this, however.

Meanwhile, AMS2's Formula Ultimate Gen 2 is due for a refresh in the upcoming v1.5.6, and the 2024 Brazilian Stock Car Pro Series will arrive with v1.6's physics improvements. To find out even more details, check the latest Dev Update on the Reiza forums.

I am not excited at all, Indycar track content still is very small. And I do not care about Sebring at all, MidOhio, Portland, Detroit etc. are better. And where is US track pack No.4?
would definitely love to see portland being built in a modern sim, its a really challenging little track, i remember it was one of the hardest to get right in Indycar Racing. I am actually surprised its not in iRacing already.

Exciting stuff. Great partnership, doubly so if it includes support series like TCR, GS, LMP3, super trofeo, carrera cup, mx5 cup, etc. Multiplayer stuff already in the pipeline, hopefully some improvements to the SP experience as well (saves, career, etc.). If they can manage to increase the grid size into the 40s or 50s and continue to refine the driving experience, I'd say AMS2 is only just getting into its prime years.

Well done, Reiza.

such a great time to be a simracer with basically all sims getting top notch content (i don't care that its mostly the same, its about having a choice).
the issue that now comes with it is that they are all so good, its hard to pick one to play with the limited time resources most people have :D
personally, i will stick with iRacing for the time being but am looking forward to AC2 EA and i keep an eye on the development of LMU. The least interesting project for now has to be Rennsport.
Exactly my thoughts at the moment . IRacing , lmu and ams2 are all upping their game atm what a time to be in simracing . I will probably play those three this year as I suspect ac2 will be delayed .

Yep, love Portland ever since ICRII. Remember practicing it on Saturday, and driving down to watch the CART race there on Sunday.

rF2 has a good Portland (official content in the workshop).

Would adore some more CART tracks added to the game: Portland, Milwaukee Mile, Nazareth, Mid Ohio, Surfer's, Toronto/Vancouver, Vegas. However with this announcement I think the North American tracks will go to others than these.

So who, in 2018, would have put money on Studio 397 having the WEC game and Reiza Studios having the IMSA one? :D

If one would have done so, he had lost all his/her money I believe ;). Reiza does not have an IMSA game to be exact. They have a license agreement...whatever that means in detail. iR e.g. does have this as well. Otherwise they were not able to promote the brand ingame. But beyond that it's very positive of course and a big milestone for AMS2 and reiza for sure. And to break it down: I'd not dare to bet that 6 years back :D:)

They can ink all they want, the driving experience still sucks big time.
I've just finished testing the latest update, and it boggles my mind why they chose the Madness Engine.
I'm not hating here, I'm entitled to my own opinion.
Everybody's praising this title like it's the next best thing after sliced bread.

But no, it's not.
AMS1 rules.
Nothing evokes the feeling of driving a real race car like that thing.
I presume they chose the engine as 4 years ago when AMS2 launched (in early access) that engine had the allure of it's graphics and was a newer engine compared to say ISI from 10+ years prior, so it perhaps stood as being a better baseline for a more modern title moving forward.

It's sad though that visuals take such high priority when chosing racing sim engines as this paved the way for UE4 being used in sims which has just been problematic for devs and gives poor performance for the consumers. So in that light, I'd still take Madness over UE, just about.

As someone who enjoy driving AMS2 content, I like that Reiza is partnering with IMSA. Particularly if that brings Sebring to AMS2, there is a lot of existing AMS2 content that I would love to race at Sebring.
Looks like a lot of new options are opening to bring excitement to our hobby in 2024.:)

UE4/5 and Madness... Neither really fill the void properly... Looks nice, but is a fair way off and given what Rennsport is going through trying to do what Ian Bell failed to do with the madness (merge the pmotor into it) it's the last real hope for UE, and Reiza is the last real hope for Madness...

I'm a bit disappointed that they're not working more toward polishing the physics and handling more. 1.5 was a major step in the right direction, but wasn't the final step if they wanted to leave behind their AMS2 style handling and go for outright realism instead. They've set themselves up for success and have gotten so far with that, but just aren't delivering that last step that'd get them out of the low position in the monthly Steam "charts" that they're normally in. 1.5 is still great and allows for really fun races, but it's a little frustrating that their focus has drifted seeing as they're so close to being a serious mainstream contender.

A Dev Update article was released yesterday, and it was explained that work on this front is still going on, with some details on the areas being worked atm.

Bit surprising to read that after a dev update that contained an extensive description of physics developments concerning tyre behaviour when sliding (hysteresis) and hinted at thermodynamics rework and tyre damage properties to be introduced in the relatively near future.

Back to this announcement: I obviously welcome the new content, specially Sebring and Road Atlanta. But like others stated, I hope it comes with some extra features and bug fixing to fully exploit this opportunity :)
