RDRC S9 Round 1 - Rally Monte Carlo (1st February - 7th February 2021)

Historically I think Swedens my best rally, hopefully I won't use the snow as a cushion too much as I got a puncture during practise there (But then again its practise so I could push as much and not have the care in the world)

I've tried to work out how to do a "roadside repair" (during testing) and I simply cannot get it to work.
I got a puncture, stopped the car, hit F3 and... nothing.
Is this functionality simply broken or is there some magic I need to invoke to make it work?

Edit: OK, tried yet again, but this time I pulled way over to the side of the road before stopping, and hey presto I got a little icon depicting 3 black wheels and a red one. Was then able to hit F3 and make something happen...

Safety first, pull to the side of the road :geek::laugh:

Going live for the last practice and last loop, see you guys at the finish line!

Just finished my attempt to conquer Col de Turini... :)

It all started very optimistic...

With a few very scary moments and many unnecessary mistakes...

And some lucky getaways...

I finally reached the top of the mountain...

A short 7 minute recap of my way through the season opener. I love how the car looks on the stages, it is really camera-friendly on the snowy stuff!

Simply awesome man :) :) Just the right length for a highlights clip, full of hairpin action, sideways action, double puncture in the dark action!

Also I love Group A cars, and as you say with this livery it stands out well! Plus a '90s yellow Escort is reminiscing of some oldschool TV Media Produksjon AS footage :inlove: I could almost hear the undersigned's voice telling about your puncture woes and your strong comeback

EDIT: subscribed to your channel; if you make more of these after each rally I'll be all over it!

Hats off to you, you even beat me with some impressive pace with a D14 engine under the bonnet! :roflmao:

....Last season I had to retire from the Monte Carlo Rally on SS9 IIRC, so I'm already close to my personal goal of improving from that :D But to increase my odds of even finishing this Rally, I'll leave the final 4 stages for the weekend, and get some good nights' sleep first:sleep::sleep::sleep:

What a great idea.. NOT.

Decided to take on the last 4 stages on saturday afternoon, instead of on a weekday night after a long working day.

So my crew fixed the damage and put the car back in mint condition. And I made it through SS9, so strictly speaking I improved my previous result.

But I failed on SS10, as right after "snow starts now.." there is a "long 2 left" where I slow down, steer left, nothing happens, understeer understeer understeer, and I slowly-but-surely slide onto the snowbank on the outside.. balance there for a few moments, and then slide over it.
Terminal damage to a car without even a scratch.

Must be the slowest terminal damage crash ever. Had I known how to do recordings and/or screenshots, I'm sure you guys would all get a good laugh out of it.
Not me though. Yet. I'm gutted.:( I'm so mad I could punch myself.:mad:

Anyways, Big THANKS! to Ole and everyone else involved in making this happen.
I really enjoy competing taking part:D in this. Just the idea that you're going up against other real human beings instead of against an algorythm that's making up stage times makes it so much more entertaining.

And well, at least there's till plenty of room for improvement if there's ever a S10 with Monte in it..:(

Finished the rally today. Pretty pleased to have made it out relatively unscathed! Monte isn't one of my strongest rallies and there are some mighty quick drivers in the RDRC class!

A shame that since doing the first four stages mid-week and having no damage to repair, I resumed today only to find my car had been smashed up and had a dented bonnet and smashed windscreen despite it being sat in the service area... Had to do SS5 with a crack in my vision which then repaired itself for SS6 but the dents remained... I love this game but hate it at times too!

damn those Monte Carlo fans! Cannot keep their hands of the rally cars!

Finished the first loop with only a couple of spins and (luckily!) no more damage than could be repaired at the first service. P31 at the time I got there. Not looking like I am gonna be in the running for points, but hey, plenty of stages to go yet...
I went ahead and made the repairs (in the hope of the damage not getting worse :roflmao:) before quitting, but I don't feel at all confident that that will "stick", so fingers crossed the damage isn't terminal when I resume :D

You're just playing a gamble, because next time you go into the event you'll have to go through the repairs again anyway :coffee: anyway, still a long way to go, and if you had that little damage I wouldn't worry much about it ;)

Ye, I think it's worth noting that you don't come in to a service with a 100% healthy car, and when you start up again you don't have time to repair the car. It's really just another Code"masters" thing, but the impact isn't that big from what I've seen.

I remember a sentence from my days competing in rallyslot that said "we drove like never, we lose like always" (was in Spanish, I hope meaning is retained).

Well, I was sitting in a comfy 3rd position in R5 class (my team mate @CrazyNevada running first) when in the penultimate stage, at the most ridiculous place at the bigging of the stage, my mind wondered off for a second... And my left rear end slid to a wall. "We've got a puncture", Phil said...

I continued a little, thinking "I can handle this, don't want to lose 1 minute in the tyre change". Ended up needing the tyre change because car was undrivable.

Lost almost 2min in the end and finished the rally in 7th position... (8th by now).

Leassons to be learned: if you have a puncture that is not in the last third of the stage, change the wheel right away. And also don't let you mind wonder off!

Still the full day if tomorrow ahead, let's hope to still end up in the top 10.

anyway, did my final leg tonight, decided against picking up 10 more secs for doing lengthy repairs, car still looked awfully dented but ran fine for all of the four stages. first snowy one worked fine but i had a huge scare in the second one: decided to push a bit more as the ice thinned out and more and more tarmac was visible but coming over a small bump, all the breakzone for the next right turn was - ice. went over the wall at quite some speed and thought - darn, end of rally. but - poof - found myself back on track, car a little more dented and -13 secs on the score sheet, scared stiff but allowed a second chance! This I grabbed and did the penultimate stage in - for my abilities - perfect fashion. had the first ever stall in hairpin of the whole event in first hairpin in power stage, survived that, too, and simply flew up turini. finshed battered and bruised but with a huuuuge grin on my face. massive thx for setting this up all responsible!! as someone else said: so much more rewarding to play against real people rather than made up ai chaps.
