Most Played Racing Games On Steam In April 2024

Spring has arrived in most of the Northern Hemisphere, and it shows in the player numbers of racing games and sims - with one big exception. Here are the most played racing games on Steam in April 2024.

Nice weather and warm temperatures seem to keep more sim racers out of their rigs, just like every year. The list of most played racing games on Steam in April 2024 shows this trend, with many titles seeing a significant reduction in average player numbers compared to the previous month.

And since BeamNG.drive actually gained a small amount of players, the softbody sandbox driving game has surpassed Forza Horizon 5 at the top of the list once again. Behind them, Assetto Corsa kept things stable, only seeing a very marginal reduction in average players.

However, it is the other Kunos Simulazioni title on the list that saw a big influx of racers. Predictably, the release of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife massively increased interest in Assetto Corsa Competizione - in fact, the GT simulator almost doubled its previous peak of concurrent players. And it could stay that way, with the real-life Nürburgring 24 Hours happening in late May.

Meanwhile, The Crew Motorfest made its Steam debut after previously only being available on the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect on PC. The game ended up in the midfield of our list, right behind Forza Motorsport.

It's going strong only because of its ability to be modded. CM, Pure, VRC, RSS, URD, all the track mods, the drifting, the traffic mods, and everything else has kept it alive. If it was just vanilla AC it would be near the bottom of the played list. This is a good lesson to race sim developers. If you want your sim to have a long-life span make it easily moddable, like rFactor, GTR2, and AC.

Do not forget Low Fuel Motorsport, been playing a lot and it's awesome. :)

WRC 7 - I like! And it is a slap in the face for WRC 23.

AMS2 is getting better but always feels like work in progress. It is beautiful but all the talk about better FFB makes me wonder what did the deliver in the beginning, and what are they doing all the time...

AC is the King of Sim. It is a perfect example for what´s it all about. (and I really do not need to drive in rain - even if it is possible)

While I personally have most Sims on the PC and fire them up, there is a real soft spot for BeamNG as it's giving me personally more than enough entertainment and variety within the one Sim:inlove:

Career Mode is still a WIP but coming along nicely with some IRL experiences :)( personal opinion)

Real Life experience in 'Career Mode'...can not get any real than....had a long day of deliveries, one more to deliver to 'Rich's', feeling tired IRL, eyes closing, just for a second, next thing the Force Feedback on my Sim Rig Steering Wheel jerked suddenly, crash noises heard, woke me up to see the below screenshot....LOL:roflmao:
....but still managed to limp / partially drive to the final delivery 20metres down the road

Another real life experience in BeamNG...the days deliveries did not go well in Career Mode:rolleyes:

First received a speeding Fine with the new 'Traffic Cameras'.

Next a Fine for going through a 'Red Traffic Light'....what, $500:confused:

0a BeamNG Career Mode RED LIGHT FINE and VAN CRASH Rear END copy.jpg

So I thought I would be a good Delivery Driver and stop behind the AI cars stopped at this Red Stop Light....only to be rear ended by another Delivery Cabover Truck which shunted me into the cars in front...LOL:roflmao:
....all delivery money made for the day....Gone in repairs!:O_o:

....and my biggest single Delivery Earnings to date....amazing and unexpectedly random  :D

My Delivery Van above, all kitted out with max 'XL Cargo Boxes' and engine upgrades including a 'Stage 3 Supercharger'....well, because why wouldn't ya:geek:

Just some other screenshots of my journey through BeamNG

A great video showing what's new in the 0.32 Career Mode update

So much to do and see....only in BeamNG;)

It just shows that content and especially new content is king.

LMU is very much a work in progress but there is only so long that people will play within the limited scope that it currently has.

I'm sure Nords bought a lot of people back to ACC but they will also have gone and played some other tracks and re-engaged with the overall game.
I may be wrong, obviously, but I think it's not that much the content, but the format.

Time passes and LMU is still EA, with a few game modes, no proper season/career mode, and only a small collection of random online activities. Had it a more structured single player experience alongside online special events, championships, and the option for leagues to serve their own events, then WEC content would be enough to keep it up.

(I am assuming that by "content" in simrace, people mean mostly cars/tracks, not features/game modes)

The 0.32 BeamNG update introduced the 'Ibishu BX', replacement for the 200BX. The 'Track' variant is awesome right out of the box:inlove:

It has great graphics on a high end machine.. as for the FFB and physics, i do not agree with you, and i am sure thousands more players of AC, iracing, rfactor 2 players dont either.

A buggy on track experience and too much longitudinal grip for the average sim racer will lead to that...

If it was a less buggy experience it'd be right up the charts as it's a content king with lots of stuff to please any sim racer and the grip isn't ultimately as offputting now they've been slowly shaving away at it, however it's still a shock that you can floor it that easily in something with over 300bhp when compared to other titles... And as ACC has shown there's a lot of people who don't mind a set up experience where set up is all about rotation, rotation, rotation if the bug list isn't that long...

If you aren't constantly fighting the car like you would in other titles you tend to notice more about the experience that doesn't add up... If they could find out why people's set ups or pit stops get corrupted and cause problems for people as often as they do alone it'd go a long way up the charts... The green lights and online issues would also send it up the charts... Same with the FFB drop outs and freezes that happen as often as the disconnects...

The content gets a lot of people in the door but they don't come back as often as AC because the experience is just as variable as trying random mods, instead with engine side bugs...

It's not better FFB, the FFB has always been good. It's the physics tweaks that are making it better as they gain a finer understanding of the madness engine. The latest versions of the stock cars and the Formula Ultimate Gen2 showcase what's coming, and it's very good. But then I've liked the physics since 1.5 tbh, even if it sometimes feels too forgiving. I always have fun in AMS2, which I think is something sim racers think is some sort of negative point. It's a great balance of a serious sim that is fun to drive.

That's just my opinion anyway:). And tbh I still play iRacing even though it drives me up the wall as I feel it's a great learning tool. But when I want to leave the rig with a smile rather than contemplating throwing the wheel out of the window, I choose AMS2.

AMS2 is still the top sim for VR, but the tyre model on some cars falls far behind others.

ACC is where i find myself for online racing

Mods and that its easily the best feeling feedback and weight movement.

Yeah, don't think you tried it properly then. Probably just trolling. Are you a gamer muscle fanboy by any chance? Anyone who claims it's an arcade game is basically talking bollocks. It's like me claiming iRacing has good FFB.
Don't apply your limited little bubble life to me, I've tried all of the listed sims and arcade games and ams2 is an arcade game. I only race myself, I don't watch anyone else race. Why is it so difficult to comprehend that opinions other than your exist.

Had an amazing few hours of Deliveries in BeamNG Career Mode, especially the last half an hour as there seemed to drop large amounts of earnings at every drop off and pick up:inlove:....as this screenshot of my Career 'Logbook - Financial History' shows:)

1 BeamNG CAREER MODE Huge DELIVERIES Financial History.jpg

....and the new largest single delivery to date:confused:

0 BeamNG CAREER MODE Huge DELIVERY REWARD 7717.jpg

It pays to spend some time in the Delivery Mode as it did not pay well for the first hour, then the delivery amounts went up consistantly if you stick with it;)...as I made approx $18,850 in half an hours Deliveries....well, have to take off the 'Speeding Fine':D

All just opinion, and everyone has one. Not the best ffb for me, maybe weight movement. I like AC and play it a lot, but it is far from the perfect sim as far as I am concerned. To me they all do things well and all do things not so well.
