The Racing Club has an undeniable theme this week - and it is not the Nordschleife, nor is it the Indianapolis oval. Instead, Monaco seems to be the virtual place to go - here's what Premium Members can look forward to in the upcoming week.

While countless sim racers may be looking forward to the Nürburgring 24 Hours or the Indy 500 and special events for these iconic races, the Racing Club has another classic firmly in its focus: The Monaco Grand Prix.

If you always wanted to tackle the streets of Monte Carlo online, but in a friendly environment, this is your week. rFactor 2 kicks things off with their 2024mula 1 Monaco Grand Prix on Monday night, followed by a historic edition of the race in Assetto Corsa on Tuesday - channel your inner Jim Clark in the Lotus Type 25 at the 1966 version of Monaco!

Or you can take an easier, modern car to the circuit for an anachronistic spectacle, as the weekly FWD vs. RWD battle continues at the same track on Wednesday. Still want more Monaco? How about modern Formula 3 cars at the 1988 rendition of Monaco on Thursday? Both events also take place in AC.

Sprinkled in between lay an LMP2 contest at Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday (AC) and an all-American race featuring the newly-released Ford Mustang GT3 at the Indianapolis road course in Assetto Corsa Competizione on Monday.

And for those who are not too fond of circuit racing, particularly around the streets of a certain municipality on the Azure Coast, the Rally Club is here to help. Turning things down a little, the H2 class goes for a chill drive in Chile until the clock strikes midnight when Monday turns into Tuesday. As usual, more EA Sports WRC events are to follow throughout the week, so be sure to check back after the Chile contest!

What is the Racing Club?

As we recently merged our websites, the OverTake community that had not been around on RaceDepartment before, we felt it might be useful to explain what the Racing Club actually is. Simply put, it is just what the name implies - a club to go racing in.

There is a bit more to it though, of course. The Racing Club hosts events throughout the week in the following simulations:
  • Assetto Corsa
  • Assetto Corsa Competizione
  • Automobilista 2
  • EA Sports WRC
  • RaceRoom (currently inactive)
  • rFactor 2

Racing Club events are open to Premium Members only. However, there are occasional 'Rookie Weeks' or non-Premium Member events to allow everyone to try the Club. To keep track on what events are happening during the week, keep an eye on this post, which will be updated weekly.

Just Good, Clean Racing

If you are hesitant about online racing, the Racing Club is nothing to be afraid of. The contrary, actually: It is not about competitive racing and who wins in the end, but rather about having a good time on track - with good, clean racing. This is the core element of the Racing Club.

Do not be afraid to ask for help if you need it, either! The Club regulars are a helpful bunch, so even online newcomers should feel comofortable in no time and even learn a thing or two.

There are Racing Club rules, of course. They include certain on-track behavior that is expected of participants, like how to handle incidents and racing around other cars. You can find the full Racing Club rules list here.

How To Sign Up

Getting up and running for Club races is easy. As a Premium Member, simply head to the Racing Club forum, find the thread of the event you want to participate in, and state your intent to be on the grid. The Club staff member who organizes the event will add you to the list of drivers then. Note that you will need to have your real name added to your user profile in order to race, as part of the Club rules. Your username does not need to be changed, though.

Come race time, you will receive the server password. Simply show up, join the party on the OverTake Discord server and go racing - have fun, and see you on track!

Which Racing Club events are you looking to enter this week? Let us know on Twitter @OverTake_gg or in the comments below!

I've been thinking about joining premium to join these races for a bit now. Can anyone tell me what the attendance is usually like? And what about the driving standards?
Hi Mrshroom,

Most of the AC events have 10+ up to 20+ participants, depending on the combo and the season. (I don't know about the other sims.)
If you're new to online racing, the best way is to try some of the FWD vs RWD events on Wednesday. The cars used are the most easy to drive so you can concentrate on racing instead of fighting the car. Most of us have started in this class and have become a lot faster. Our community welcomes the less experienced and the regular participants are all very helpful and understanding towards newcomers.

The driving standards are based on clean and respectful racing. You can read the rules here https://www.overtake.gg/threads/racedepartment-racing-club-league-rules.10977/#post-530016. Our events are hosted by a staff member who make sure that drivers who misbehave will get banned temporarely or even permantly. That's also explained in the rules.

If you want to join, please read the first post of the event thread very carefully to know what you have to do.

I hope to see you on track soon!

Hi MarkModdy,

The FWD vs RWD series is very suitable for novice drivers. One is participating now. The cars are simple with limited setup options and the participants are very friendly and helpful to new participants. It's a good stepping stone to other series by learning the basics of racing and experiencing how to race against people.

I'll send you a PM with some useful information and a good basic setup for the MX5. You can participate without any problem.

And there's no need to be discouraged if you're a straggler in your first race. We all improved a lot in these series by practicing and learning from others. And we're having a lot of fun in the meantime.

For anyone interested, the LMP2's are out next Sunday 21st, following up the WEC event at Imola next weekend. All are more than welcome.

Redundant now, sorry. Can delete.
