What Would You Like to See in Sim Racing Esports?

With the growth in popularity over the last few years, sim racing has also seen the rise of its own esports scene. While many flock to the streams and live events to see the biggest teams and drivers compete on virtual racing tracks, others do not find it as appealing. We want to know: What would you like to see in sim racing esports?

Most esports competitions in sim racing seem to focus on a single category, that being GT3 - which makes sense considering the numerous competitions that field cars of this class around the globe. For sim racing esports, this means that drivers are competing with modern cars that feature traction control, ABS and usually a Balance of Performance that should ensure relatively even competition.

There are options out there, it seems, with the F1 Esports series being a well-known one. Other vehicles do see use in iRacing Special Events, for example, leading to top-flight esports teams fielding LMDh cars or others. There are esports leagues out there that focus on multi-class racing, too, such as the 24H Series Esports, which also features GT4 and TCR cars. VCO also organizes events that focus on variety to break the mould.

All of this might change with the influx of prototype vehicles from the LMH and LMDh classes, new sims being developed, or just simply shifts in general popularity of racing classes. Meanwhile, presentation and production values of live streams of the top-flight esports competitions have become extremely professional, sometimes even equaling or exceeding broadcasts of real races thanks to the added possibility of having camera access to every inch of every car and the track they are racing on.

What Are You Interested In?

We are curious, though: What would you like to see in sim racing esports? Different classes? Certain circuits? Vintage content to have esports racers slide classic cars around using an H-shifter? What would make you interested in watching an esports event? What are the current issues that keep you from watching? What keeps you getting drawn back in if you are an avid watcher of esports events? Let us know in the comments below!

that's precisely the problem!!!, money corrupts every single time. its all about levels
What do you want then? The developers need money to develop new titles/content. Money is mandatory for development without it sim racing is dead. People need to make a living.

Esports can possibly fund some game development for some companies. If Esports disappeared tomorrow I doubt it would impact on new games. Before Esports, games were being made no problem.

Define "development". If by "development" this means only use of Unreal Engine 5 for squeezing every last bit of computer performance for graphical wonders (ultra shaders, ray tracing, etc), then thanks, but no, thanks. AAA titles spend all their money on exterior, forgetting about what's must be inside. We have the situation when small teams and even one man projects create more in-depth, more interesting to play games than anything that comes out of corporations like Playground Games.

"Development" today is such a hollow buzzword often used as an ugly facade cover. Like "innovation" in the cycling industry...

Simply any kind of development regarding sim racing titles, maintaining it and developing new titles.. it all costs money.

Not sure what you're talking about but I hope that it's not in unreal engine, that engine is horrible for vr support.

As a fan of simracing (and simdriving), I have absolutely 0 interest in e-sports. Zero spectactle for spectators and no real reward for drivers. Simracing is a platform for select few corporate entities to promote their sterilized, sanitized, lifeless junk nobody really cares about.

— Man, I LOVE how things have become so corporate lately! — said no one, never.
Honestly the lack of imagination is what ruins it. Why the **** are we watching modern GT3 cars going around official race calendar tracks?! Someone is already doing it with real life and with all the random elements and drama!

One of the best thing about simracing is that it can be anything you want it to be! Touge Races with GT3 Cars? Historic Tracks with Mazda Formula ? Retro F1 Cars on Modern Tracks?! EVEN FANTASY CIRCUITS?!

Sure I get it, sponsor money from real GT series organizers blah blah blah but that is boring AF. I would rather rewatch breaking bad than see GT3 esport.

No eSports junk.
I honestly can't understand how you can look at people playing a game that I can play myself and then celebrate them like pop stars. This is absolutely insane.
Is their life really that empty?
Real motorsport is far more interesting.
In addition to the boring F1 broadcasts, I also quit Sky because of the Esport broadcasts.
I do not support this type of profit maximization.
But it's not just esports. All forums are mostly about replays, use of filters, still images.
I have artifacts in the replay. Which filter is the best. Such or similar sentences are read quite often. I don't watch replays. I know what happened. I know where I made mistakes, after all I was there. But the main reason I don't watch replays is because it's a game for entertainment and distraction.
Ignoring is the only thing that helps against the cancer of e-sports. When the corporations notice that they are only burning money with this junk, it immediately disappears into nirvana.

An illusion, but I would like one day to have in the same "official game" of F1, Indy, WEC (World Endurance Championship), WRC (World Rally Championship), Moto GP the following for example:

If it were launched in 2025 (base season), at the same time another 2 or 3 (complete classic seasons from each decade of the championship in question, such as cars and tracks, what's the point of classic cars, if we don't have the classic tracks to compose the scene , This would apply mainly to some old F1 and Moto Gp games.

For the following year, 2026 (it would be included via DLC, the season of the year in question and 2 or 3 more (complete classic seasons) and so on for another 2 or 3 years.

Then I would accept it (if necessary, a new engine, or new resources for a new game) We can unofficially recreate this, perhaps in an Assetto Corsa (with several other categories), in the old rfactor 1 (something in rFactor 2).

We can find this idea ( partially in the RaceRoom simulator), the base game must be from 2012 (then added content and improvements via DLC), but it is still far from ideal.

Maybe next month we will see something similar, in the future EA WRC Codemasters game (in addition to the official 2023 season), we will have many other classic cars ( who knows, maybe there will be many more later, as well as new locations), so we can create our own season classic, at least since the beginning of the "World Rally" in 1973.

Who knows, in the future "Le Mans Ultimate" simulator at the end of the year, you can offer us a similar idea in the near future (other versions of the La Sarthe circuit), as well as numerous cars (according to their respective seasons), which made history in the "24 hours", in addition to, of course, the "World Endurance Championship" itself since 1953.
