French manufacturer Peugeot has blessed the World Sportscar Championship with some of the most iconic prototype machinery. Here are some of the company's most famous cars and how you can drive them within your simulator of choice!

Peugeot 905 & 905B

The first car on the list is the machine that brought Peugeot their first Le Mans win back in 1992, the 905. Peugeot started racing at Le Mans before the 24-hour race was officially established back in 1912, Jules Goux won the Grand Prix de France at Le Mans at the wheel of a Peugeot. It wouldn't be until 1926 that Peugeot would enter the official 24 hours of Le Mans.

The 905 was Peugeot's debut prototype in the World Sportscar Championship. The 905 debuted in February 1990 and was developed throughout the year. However, it would not make its competitive debut until the final two races of the 1990 World Sportscar Championship season in Mexico and Canada.

How To Drive The 905

The 905 is spread quite generously across multiple titles and platforms. The main series the car appears in is the Forza Motorsport franchise; appearing in all but the fifth instalment. Gran Turismo also features the 905 variants across Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6.

The 905 B from Gran Turismo 4 was included as a standard model. Unfortunately, the car had a very basic interior with little to no detail. This car transferred into both GT5 and GT6.

There are multiple mods for Assetto Corsa on PC outside of first-party content. The mods also support different liveries, many of which you can find in our download section. Not satisfied with the engine sound of the 905? OverTake.gg mod creator Violaseven has created a fantastic sound mod to upgrade the audio experience of this incredible Le Mans legend.

Peugeot 908 HDi FAP

Famed for winning the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours, the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP is the second-ever diesel sports car from a major manufacturer, following in the footsteps of Audi's R10 TDI. Four 908s were entered into the 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans, three by Peugeot, and a 2008 model by Pescarolo. Cars #9 and #8 took first and second place, 16 years after Peugeot's last win with the 905. Because of the Le Mans victory in 2009, Peugeot contested the race in 2010 with the 908's numbered 1-2-3.

With the ending of Peugeot's motorsport program in 2012, 2011 marked the last year of competition for the 908. Peugeot would bow out of competition until 2022 when they would come back with their wingless 9X8.

How To Drive The 908

Forza once again comes through as the top title. The 908 debuted in Forza Motorsport 2 and has been present in every title since. The 908 also appears in Gran Turismo 5, Gran Turismo 6, Gran Turismo Sport and Gran Turismo 7.

Assetto Corsa is the place to go for third-party content to nobody's surprise. Unlike the car itself, multiple liveries for the 908 HDi FAP are available in our download section.

Peugeot 9X8

Peugeot's modern Hypercar burst into the World Endurance Championship in the latter stages of 2022 with its revolutionary wingless design. Whilst the car struggled initially, 2023 saw the 9X8 develop and start picking up pace with some better performances

However, Peugeot had a fantastic start to 2024 being just minutes away from a first victory in Qatar before fueling issues saw them painfully retire and the entirety of France let out a big sigh of disbelief. Following on from Qatar, Peugeot would retire its wingless design and a new winged design is due to be debuted at Imola towards the end of April 2024. Peugeot have made it no secret that an overall Le Mans victory is their aim for 2024. With the pace the 9X8 showed in Qatar, that goal could certainly be achievable.

How To Drive The 9X8

The main simulator for experiencing the 9X8 would, of course, be Le Mans Ultimate, Studio 397's officially licensed WEC title. The 9X8 is brilliantly modelled with accurate liveries and real drivers. The level of detail and immersion when lapping with the 9X8 is truly something special!

LMU only has the wingless 9X8 available currently, but with the 2024 update on the horizon, expect to see the updated winged Peugeot make its debut in the sim. It is, however, the only sim to correctly model the current breed of Hypercars' hybrid system.

If LMU is not your style, Assetto Corsa has you covered. There are multiple paid and free versions of the 9X8 available for download, potentially making for a good AI racing experience. Additionally, are plenty of custom liveries here on OverTake.gg if you do decide to go down the modded route.

Interesting article. Some good information, but also room for improvement.

First, I think these articles would be far more informative if they also provided links to non-RaceDepartment car mods, provided that they are high-quality original work. Consider this part of the article:

Why not provide a link to the VRC webpage with their impressive payware mod? Here it is, for anyone curious. Without these links, it's tough to claim that the article succeeds in telling us "how you can drive them within your simulator of choice".
(Also, a small quibble: AI racing is not at all the strong suit of Assetto Corsa.)

Second, where is the research into the past of sim racing? One of the best-known and most-loved mods for rFactor 1 was the Enduracers Endurance Series mod (available at this link from Enduracers) which includes the Peugeot 908 HDI FAP along with its prototype and GT counterparts from the time period. I actually clicked on this article assuming that this mod would be mentioned front-and-center!

Yeh, but VRC is a facsimile made without licencing or real-world data yet still paid-for. Close your eyes and pretend etc etc.

Unfortunately, the new Forza Motorsport doesn't have Peugeot 908, only the 905.

I have to say Peugeot builds some ugly looking cars:confused:. But from time to time they manage to deliver some iconic ones.... :inlove: like those "LMPs" or the 205 ... or my 3008 gt-line :D

I'm really disappointed they went with the wing...

It went from looking special from behind to just like any other prototype...

Still looks aggressive from the front but is just not as special of a car anymore...

I fully agree, the lack of knowledge about simracing past is understandable but not acceptable. When an article deals with old cars, it requires some research or the input of an old simracer.

What about the tremendous VLM Prototype C mod for F1 Challenge? It is the only proper way to race the 905 with the full grid of competitors.
By the way, that sound mod doesn't do justice to this V10 F1 engine, it is correct but muffled, it needs some equalizer adjustment.

A VLM mod conversion had been made for GTR2, including the 905, but I'm not sure it was legit and when I tried it many years ago it wasn't good. It may have been improved later and it may have been authorized.

I also used to race the 908 in GTR2 with also full grids (1LMS, LMS, LM24h). I would still race it in GTR2 if it didn't have issues with my wheel...
