F1 22 Will Be Free This Weekend

EA and Codemasters celebrate the USGP this weekend with free access to their F1 22 title. The game will be freely available from tomorrow until 24th October, covering the whole Grand Prix weekend. You can access special price and promotions during that time as well.

F1 arrives at Austin this weekend and gamers will have a chance to play freely on the following platforms until 24th October; Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Steam (PC). Not only this free access will be enabled, also a Daniel Ricciardo Challenge will be running as well.

In the challenge you try to beat the McLaren's driver lap time on Circuit of the Americas track and upload your fastest laptime to social networks with hashtags #RicciardoChallenge and #F122gameSweepstakes. A random winner will be selected and have the chance to virtually meet with Daniel himself.

“With the Circuit of the Americas just around the corner, we wanted to do something special and allow as many players as possible to experience the new era of Formula 1,” said Paul Jeal, Senior Director F1® Franchise at Codemasters. “During this free weekend trial, anyone can experience the thrill of Formula 1 for a limited time and we couldn’t have asked for a better coach to show us around the circuit than Daniel Ricciardo.”

Also remember some free items were included in the last update to celebrate the USGP like special livery, helmet, race suit, gloves and The Griddy celebration that you can claim until 7th November.

Now make the game actually free because w/ all the micro transactions it should be, the game is only worth it if it's free cuz it's garbo

I say no, don't do that b/c then it turns into a crap freemium mobile-style game. Give me the premium product that is fully featured, let people pay for garnish if they want. But I also hope they don't nudge me towards the shop for a skin or decoration for my trailer....

And no energy meters and in-game currency needed to do the actual racing. It could definitely be worse.

(Still don't think I'll waste the bandwidth to DL. I've got life left in F1 2019 yet...)

I really enjoy F1 22 on both PC and PS5. The handling/physics/FFB are fine to me, because I am quite certain that a fully accurate rendition of a 2022 F1 car would be nearly undriveable (at competitive speeds) for the vast majority of not just sim racers, but most real-life racers as well (with the exception of those who came up through karting, F4, etc from a young age).

I ran in SCCA for several years but I know my limitations. Either you came up through karting or you didn't. Learning something like an F1 car later in life, without that requisite karting experience, would be like learning tennis in your 40's: Everyone who sees you will immediately know you never played as a kid.

I get that micro transactions are annoying, but is it something that you are required to do in 2022? From what I gather, the game works just fine for F1 races, career, etc.

I for one will take advantage and try, instead of bitching about nonsense in the comments section
Yeah sorry but that argument of telling people to just ignore it has long been debunked.

What does Freely available mean? Free to play, or free to own? I wish EA would come out with a Full Indy circuit like they have with their F1 as well as a NASCAR with all the tracks n Drivers.

The physics refresh is dictated my your monitor refresh? Seriously? Sooooo slower monitor users get a different game to fast monitors?

Well it's actually true, you can't even give it away for free. Try paying me, if you pay me enough I might actually play it!!!!
Source? That would be pretty messed up.

Most likely it means you can download and run a time limited version of the program that may include just the COTA track(or, who knows, the full package) But at some point after the weekend, the program will stop functioning.

No.

Steam free weekends/weeks/period-of-time are full games available for a set period of time. No limitations on anything. Other than the fact that when the time is up, you will have to buy it to keep playing.

It's actually quite common that there are a game each week avaiable this way. I've removed Europa Universalis due to it. I ended up buying Northgard after liking it when trying it for free. I ended up buying F1 2021 due to it, as I didn't have time to finish the "story mode" before the free weekend ran out.

Usually a free weekend also includes a sale on the game, a sale that ends 1-2 days after the free weekend. In the hope that people want to keep playing, and sees the game on sale, thinking "man, have to buy it now!".

Yes, making money.

As much as I hate EA, they are a business like any other that needs to show a profit. At least we are getting yearly games. Remember the time between 2003 and 2009 that we had nothing?

I don't care if they want to do F1 Life, I just wish it was after the options to go racing so I don't have to see pointless (to me) messages when I have to click past it. It's supposed to be a sim, not "The Sims"
Either that or give us mouse support so I can just click on the option I want straight away:rolleyes::D

That I agree with 1000%, is it really that impossible to code in a cursor and mouse support when the platform is shared with consoles? But more of a Codies issue

The career and my team modes are so generic with very little care put into them. Nothing really changes from year to year. Not even the GP title cards change the dates. It will be your 5th season and it still says "2022 X GP". Just laziness all around.

i just want to try the free weekend without paying... but to download you need to pay wtf (can anyone help me? - i play on PC so steam) plsssss:(:(:(:(

Google it and you will find multiple sites discussing it.
The main complaint is how it affects kerbs, a 30hz gamer can just drive over them, a 200hz gamer gets launched.
I watched a very well known YouTube sim racers review and that's where I first heard it.
Basically killed any interest I had.
