Clarification for non-math aficionados: the above two illistrations are refering to the Gauss function or in the special case, the symmetrical (famous?) Bell Curve. It is a continuous function which approximates the distribution of statistical events. In simple terms with example of the Bell Curve ("you are here" Tshirt): middle of chart = high probability the event will occur; two sides of chart: low probability the event will occur.
To endanger explaining the jokes too thoroughly and therefore ruining them: the Bell Curve exemplifies people and population. The "you are here" point refers to being a (math-) geek - low probability and low portion of total population.
