IndyCar IR18 and Ligier LMP3 Comes to rFactor 2 Next Week

IndyCar_header.jpg
Studio 397 keeps announcing new content for rFactor 2. After announcing Daytona International Speedway, with multiple layouts, on Monday. The Ligier JS P320 was announced on Tuesday. Today, the IndyCar IR18 was announced.

In an announcement that probably didn't surprise many rFactor 2 players, the IndyCar IR18 was announced today. Users of rFactor 2, may have spotted the car when launching the game, as it is one of the cars being shown on the start-screen of the game.

The Dallara DW12 is already in the game, but IndyCar has progressed since then, and they have kept updating the spec chassis over the 10 years the car has been used. Now in it's third iteration, the IR18 have visibly changed, with the removal of wheel covering, enormous group b-like aero and the aero development. They have also introduced the Red Bull Technologies developed frontal driver protection canopy. More alike what you see on jet-fighters and speed record cars than the F1 halo.

The cars have upwards of 700HP in the configuration with most power, and it comes with different aero and power packages depending on type of track you are driving on. The cars have very little in terms of driving aids, and they still run without power steering. Making it a physical car to drive on bumpy street circuits.

The car will arrive to rFactor 2 with all teams, drivers and liveries from the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series season, and have been developed in cooperaton with the IndyCar teams. Together with the car, rFactor 2 will be adding a couple of new physics features as well. Namely Push-to-Pass and Weight Jacker, both are features that are vital in IndyCar racing.

To celebrate the release of the car. There will be a special edition esport event with drivers like 2021 IndyCar champion Alex Palou, 2021 INDY 500 winner Helio Castroneves and two-time champion Josef Newgarden. This will take place the 9th of February. In addition to this, the IndyCar IR18 will be added to the rF2 competition system.

Ligier JS P320 Social.jpg

In addition to the IndyCar IR18. The Ligier JS P320 LMP3 was announced on Monday. This will be a welcome addition to all who likes the lower powered prototype-racing, as it means the Norma LMP3 already in the game will get a playmate on track.

Ligier is well known for years in Formula 1, and their win with Olivier Panis in the 1996 Monaco GP is widely known and remembered. However, they sold the team to Alain Prost, and left F1 after the 1996 season.
Liger returned to motorsport in 2013 together with Onroak Automotive and have enjoyed great success in prototype racing. Being the first since Ferrari to win the 24 hours of Daytona, 12 hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans when they did so in 2016 with their LMP2-car.

Their LMP3 car is built for Road to Le Mans, Le Mans Cup, IMSA and the European Le Mans Series, where the Ligier have been fighting for titles all seasons.
LMP3 is considered more of an entry class into prototype racing, which makes it a great car to learn how to handle cars that relies on downforce, yet not so much downforce that it makes it hard to have close and hard racing on the track.

Both the IndyCar IR18 and Ligier JS P320 LMP3 will join Daytona International Speedway in being released for rFactor 2 the 7th February 2022.

If you want to race online in a casual and friendly environment where the focus is on learning, evolving and polishing your own skills. Why not join the RaceDepartment Racing Club. We run multiple rFactor 2 events every week.

Got my first sim when I was 7, but didn't start properly until I got a wheel when I was 12. Been a staff at RaceDepartment since 2012. Mainly the dirty-guy who does rally-stuff here. But also management-titles and rFactor 2.

tried VR?
So your solution is for me to spend more money to get a game to give me the view I should have by default. If I don't need VR in AC, ACC, PC2, AMS2 and even F1 20xx to see apexes, why the hell should I need VR for RF2?
They actually broke the feature by changing the original UI. The .json configuration change was fine before that.

You are a RF2 developer aren't you. Or maybe a VR salesperson. :whistling:

They will enjoy their new GT3 car with same old tires, with the rest of the old content. Drifting is so much fun in rF2! Ask Henry Sinik!

Are you a programmer? Do you know for a fact that it's easy?
S397 has been a small studio with limited resources so yes, they had trouble making improvements.
But this flurry of releases give some hope that things could be improving.
And, if you don't like rF2, why the &%$# are you here ranting?
People can and should criticise, but do it with judgement and balance.
Spewing hot takes takes zero effort.
I would like to check your skill on your line of business... You must be the best in the world...

I know for a fact that many other developers know what they are doing and S397 are making mistakes left and right with so many of you sycophants continue to trash other games and even companies that actually fix their **** and polish their old stuff like they should.

I love rF2, I've grown to despise S397, nothing more simple then that.

This can't be changed as this is how the whole game is built - with packages - it would require to rebuild the game from ground up to make it work.
Note: during sales, as currently, ALL GT3 cars cost € 13,00 in a pack, which is the price for a single car on iRacing.
So you could not be further from the truth.
Everything can be changed. With isi they said the graphics can't be changed, the ui can not... etc. etc. Also the price of gt3 content in rf2 is 13.2€ for the cars during this special sale, then add the tracks (one track 9€) and you are looking at 21€ just to test it quickly. Iracing price is one car and a track that comes with the base package. And since we are comparing sales prices the new customer iracing price is not the full price either. A gt3 car is 12 dollars and one month is 8 dollars. And you are guaranteed to actually have people to race against at that price. Rf2 is a ghost town in comparison. And once rf2 adds a gt3 to the game you are suddenly excluded from every server unless you buy a car you don't care about.

I tested ffb from paddock online, maybe will give a shot for few more setups… but in anycase it need online racing as AI is bad…

They need time to get all 14 cars to work as intended with the new tyres.
Disappointing that it has not happened yet, no doubt, but not the end of the world.

At a cost lower than 1 month subscription. A single car costs €5,00 (hopefully prices won't be raised, but I would not be surprised if they were) and you may be "forced" to buy one every 4 or 5 months - if that much at all, as the last GT3 launched before this was in 2019.
That's a very bizarre argument to make, specially if you do not even have access to practice with the contents that you bought if you do not continue to pay the subscription...
So, €13,00 for 13 cars and now another € 5,00 for a new one is still a pretty affordable price.
And "buy a car you don't care about" is a narrow attitude. I, personally, enjoy driving different cars all the time instead of cornering me into just one car.

Your honesty is appreciated. At least you admit your visceral feelings.
However, with that type of feelings also comes bitterness, loss of perspective and your opinions become tainted.
There is some hope that rF2 will take a quality leap going forward and if you like rF2, despising S397 accomplishes nothing.

lmp2/3, DPi and GTE are in one pack: the endurance pack, they arent fragmented for a while now

I understand not everbody wants to drive everything, like I dont do aswell, but still 13 for 13 is in any form better than 13 for 1, even if I personally dont plan on using like 9 or so, its simply more for the same, so I dont loose anything, the only real complain would be that the steam item store cant handle single items in packs (like the people that have most items form a pack and lack one or more, here I can totally understand the argument that buying things you dont want is bad, since here you are then paying more than you otherwise would have had, maybe a rfactor 2 store could help this issue, like in Raceroom), but if one only has to buy things in packs its a decent system
Aren't the Ligier and C8R separate? Because I had to but them separately when they came out despite owning the Endurance pack.

They were separate and can still be bought as an "add-on", however, there is now a complete Endurance Pack.
Only exception will be the new LMP3.

? you don't have to spend anymore than that initial price to 'test it quickly' There are dozens of free cars and tracks included with rF2 at no extra cost. If you do want the DLC content, then you do have to contend with that All or Nothing system, but to try it..to race it...to use it for hours and hours and hours with car after car at track after track, all forjust the initial price.

There is tons of great free mods that can rival many of the official DLC's. Not talking about rF2 but also for AC.
Because modders can spend a invinite amount of time, tweaking and modding.
Some modding teams even work more closely with real racing teams, have real driver input and can use their data. Not even the studio has access to such first hand information.

I hope not to sound unappreciative of the work S397 has done with the UI and DLC but keeping my fingers crossed for some enhancements to single player, in particular the flag system.
We all do, well, all of us who do race offline at least some of the time. They plan on quarterly updates to the program. At first I thought that meant this month SOMETHING was coming, hopefully any one of a number of CRUICIAL fixes, but now with such a large DLC dump, I'm hoping the cars & track are not the update but in-addition to the update. Time will tell.

They haven't become tainted. Maybe they will show better work this year, new employers and all, but until now I got just disappointement, since even the DLC they made is not up to standard of rF2. The tracks are good value and other cars.

Yesterday I joined the rfactor discord because I needed some help. I recently purchased rfactor and was having fun, but I wanted to try online. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to join any servers.

I joined the discord to ask for help and I tagged the developers in hoping there was a solution. I did not find any help at all and I felt I was bullied by the moderators.

I was made to feel stupid and I had everyone going against me, cheering on Jimmy Allisen who instead of helping me treated me like I was a bad person.

I received two private messages. One of them was someone calling me a “black ape”, and the other one was calling me a “retard”.

I will admit I might have come across abrasive, and I was very frustrated, but I sincerely just wanted some help and understanding. Instead all I got was a group of people against me and some offensive messaging. When I tried to talk back to Jimmy Allisen I was simply booted from the discord server, while his ‘cheer squad’ cheered on. I felt humiliated and depressed, and I turned of the game and gave up.

All I wanted was some help and now that I am banned from the discord I’m not able to find help on the fly.

I will apologise for my abrasive behaviour, it is honestly not me, but I was having a bad day already, and receiving those messages fired me up more.

is that it then? Am I banned from the discord for good because of that? Do I get another chance and to seek support again for a recent game that I like?

This is how it is now at your discord. Same happened to me after some nice provoking by Jimmy when previous day he says we should stop the snarky remarks... Anyway, do you want me to support that and the lack of trust built the last 6 years? Not anymore no. Can be quite pleased with my RF2 as it is without anymore of their content. Already spent around 100 euros on them and now I have modders wich I will start to donate probably each one of them depending on the quality of the mod.

Worst case I put $50AU in Steam for the DLC

dammit..... have to eat vegemite and peanut butter sandwiches for a fortnight

How you are treated after spending around 150 euros on all of RF2 my boys! Thanks S397 (or Jimmy). At least you won't get nothing more from me.

Why are they constantly bringing out stuff that the modding community has already taken care of???

Fix the game breaking bugs S397... New content that is the same as modded content is pretty useless when there's so much broken within the game itself...

They only care about releasing new content so they could charge some money. It's already clear for many years that S397 isn't a developer that cares about their game owners, it's the opposite of Kunos and Reiza. S397 seems to almost hate their community, they remove all critisism of their own forum, if you say one word to much at a bug report then you will be banned instantly. They simply cannot handle the truth and the truth is that RF2 will always be a bugfest, they are not able to fix it. Period. It could have been great but it's simply an disaster. So yes I completely agree with you but I gave up.

Nope. There is the Endurance Pack and the Endurance Upgrade Pack now. So still fragmented.

Edit: Nevermind, the main pack includes all. I don't like that you buy the base pack, additional content is released that is not in the base pack. You buy it. Then they put it in the base pack. So those who support early are basically punished.

So what, you want any new addition that might end up in the pack for free? What business model is that?
If they don't put it in the pack people (like you just did) complain that it is fragmented...
