As expected, this F1 24 will arrive with last season’s Formula 2 action, before the new F2 car arrives later in the year.

This season’s updated Formula 2 car will arrive in EA SPORTS F1 24 post-release.

As has been the recent process, when the next Formula 1 game releases at the end of this month, it will include the 2023 Formula 2 cars and drivers.

Then, as is tradition, at some point after release, a free update will arrive that includes this season’s F2 grid.

Except this year, it will also include a new car.

“We will ship with 2023 F2 cars so you get that natural chronological order of going from F2 into F1 when you play driver career,” explains Senior Creative Director for F1 24, Lee Mather, to OverTake.

"Then, later in the year, we'll update to the 2024 spec car, which is quite exciting, because they do look very, very different.”

Every car on the F2 grid is identical, powered by a 3.4-litre turbo-charged V6 engine. New for this season was a re-designed nose, front and rear wings plus a fresh floor, markedly different from the design seen in 2023. The aim was to create something closer to an F1 machine.

The current F2 season is being led by Barbadian Zane Maloney and includes Mercedes-backed 17-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

In the game, a revised driver career provides the option of selecting a real-world competitor for the first time and seeing their ratings rise and fall. This includes the ability to jump straight into F1 or select from (initially, at least) the 2023 F2 grid.

The development team has so far talked at length about an all-knew kinematics model for the suspension systems, and that is said to be true also for the support category.

Formula 3 An “Ongoing Conversation”

F2 was first introduced into the yearly gaming series by developer Codemasters for F1 2019. However, additional undercards such as Formula 3 and now F1 Academy remain absent.

This is not the case, for example, with the F1 Manager series, which integrates reserve drivers and F3 rosters into the line-up of available talent.

MotoGP 24 features Moto2 and Moto3 alongside the premier class.

When quizzed about F3 specifically, while absent from F1 24, the creation team remained coy about their potential addition henceforth:

“It’s another one of those ongoing conversations,” says Mather.

“I think when we feel the time is right and we've got a game that will really make the most of that extra content, then that's definitely something we'd be looking to bring in.”

Jeddah Updates, Team Radio Examples and Increased Driver Likeness

As previously showcased in trailers and gameplay revealed, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and Lusail all received track updates. So too does the Jeddah Corniche venue, which has now been detailed as "updated circuit infrastructure and trackside artwork," explains EA's overview.

The real-world team radio has also been showcased, with Lewis Hamilton berating an eighth-place finish, and Fernando Alonso celebrating a podium. These are said to trigger at the end of races, or when retiring.

What is being touted as "improved eye and skin shaders" have been applied to driver likenesses alongside "full hair rendering" when seen in updated cutscenes and career menus to boot.
