UPDATE 01/01/2024
The highly anticipated Le Mans and Endurance Pack DLC for Automobilista 2 has finally released on the very last day of the last year! The new game update shifts Automobilista 2 to v1.5.5 and adds completely new contents to the sim with Le Mans and state-of-the-art 2023 Endurance race cars.

But it gets even better. As the news announcement in the official Reiza forum says, “the two new DLCs will remain free for all at release and into the first few days of 2024 so everyone gets to enjoy AMS2 at its very best.”

For more info on AMS2 and the news contents, watch the “2023 Wrap-Up Promo Trailer” from Reiza.

UPDATE 30/12/2023
The new content and update are delayed due to instabilities during beta testing, according to Reiza Founder & Lead Developer Renato Simioni. A release candidate could become available over the course of the final weekend of 2023, but is also not certain. Either way, the actual update "shouldn´t be more than a couple of days for an official release", as Simioni states.

Note: A previos version of this article originally posted on December 25 stated that the release of the new update and content would be due on December 27, according to info available to RaceDepartment. As this info has changed, we have edited the affected part accordingly.

Endurance racing icons are already present in Automobilista 2, but Le Mans likely tops them all. The legendary Circuit de La Sarthe is due for release for the start of 2024, with a 2023-spec batch of LMDh and GT3 cars in tow. More historic and modern Le Mans-related content will come later, but the modern track and the cars are suposed to close out 2023 in style.

Of course, the track is just what you would expect from Le Mans. A 13,629-kilometer blast on public roads and purpose-built race track in its current guise, including all the scenery that devleoper Reiza Studios has a knack for recreating well in their tracks. In addition to the endurance circuit that hosts the 24 Hours of Le Mans each year, the less popular Bugatti circuit is also included.

Two new Porsches find their way to Automobilista 2.

Automobilista 2 Le Mans: Three Prototypes, Four GT3s

What would Le Mans be without top-tier prototypes to race at La Sarthe? The same thought has been on Reiza’s minds, as no less than three Hypercars will come to the sim. Thus far, the BMW M Hybrid V8, Cadillac V-Series.R and Porsche 963 are only in iRacing as officially licensed content. This will change as the Endurance Pack Pt. 1 releases – according to the Dev Update, this should happen in the final week of 2023.

Meanwhile, the four new GT3 vehicles could potentially become new stars of AMS2. The new GT3 Gen 2 class features the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) and the BMW M4 GT3. Taking over from the older-spec GT3 cars, they are AMS2’s chance to shine in that car category. Thus far, the GT3 cars already in the sim are decent, but not among its showpieces. The four models are also part of the Endurance Pack Pt. 1, which is set to retail for €8,99/$9,99 – the same price Le Mans will cost.

In preparation for the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, the updated cars make sense to coincide with the track. As GTE will not be part of the WEC anymore, GT3 swoops in to take over the non-prototype class.

Shader Update For Better Lighting

With the new content come new features as well, as the Automobilista 2 Le Mans Dev Update highlights. One that is immediately obvious once you run the new cars against AI is that they now flash their headlights. Additionally, the numbers on the doors of the new cars now light up when their lights are switched on. This is a result of shader adjustments, which also reduces glare from in-car displays.

Speaking of displays: Flag LED boards at modern tracks are functional now. Though only displaying green and full-course yellows for now, this will be expanded to show blue flags and local yellows as well. The shader update also changes the way rain behaves on windshields and interacts with wipers.

Automobilista 2 Le Mans: AI Driver Swaps & Better Night Performance

Furthermore, the first few improvements for endurance racing capabilities are part of v1.5.5. While multiplayer driver swaps will still have to wait, it is npw possible to hand the car over to AI drivers, who have received more attention to behave in a more realistic way. The feature had already been there in the previous update, though the AI would not scale to the selected AI strength. This has now been remedied.

The feature is set to expand in future versions. The Dev Update mentions players being able to choose which AI drivers are going to be their temmates and which should drive in which session, allowing them to use their strengths and weaknesses strategically. To properly enable multiclass racing, a multiclass points system has been implemented.

Meanwhile, those struggling with AMS2‘s performance in night scenarios can breathe a sigh of relief. The update will add a function to reduce the number of visible vehicles, which had proven to be the main source of the problem. Another adjustment the player can make is to set the level of engine noise reverb off of walls.

Exciting Plans For 2024

Of course, while this update packs quite a punch just a month after the release of v1.5.3 and subsequently v1.5.4, which in itself was rather substantial. Reiza are not done, however. Historic versions of Le Mans plus appropriate cars are in the works, as well as more modern machinery. In both cases, the intention is to mostly add to existing classes, although new ones will come, too.

The Automobilista 2 Le Mans Dev Update also mentions two “very traditional race tracks in the USA [that are] still needed to make AMS2 truly complete for endurance racing.” Could Sebring and Road Atlanta be on their way? It would seem so – but time will tell.

Another teaser could mean the arrival of even more spectacular endurance cars. “We do have some red hot news they may look forward to early on next year“, states Reiza founder and lead developer Renato Simioni in the Dev Update. “We can´t yet confirm which and how many there will be, but it´s fair to expect them to have a more latin flavour to them.

Ferrari, Peugeot, Lamborghini?

The final part of this quote is extremely intriguing. “Latin” likely does not refer to Spain or South America, as there are no manufacturers from those regions in either IMSA or WEC. It could mean Italy and France, however – so AMS2 racers could get treated to the Ferrari 499P, the Lamborghini SC63, or the Peugeot 9X8 if this was indeed the direction of the hint.

This would likely enable Reiza to add Ferrari’s and Lambhorgini’s GT3 vehicles, or the outgoing GTE version of the Ferrrai 488. Not to mention the possibilities for historic cars.

Each new release in the game i get closer to uninstalling other sims.. if they release a Sebring I can untick RF2..

in other wishlist news, since R3E apparently will never upgrade its 2005 graphics engine, I would pay serious cash $$$$$ if R3E and Reiza broker a deal to bring the obscure tracks from r3e to ams2.. the R3E TrackPack.. Bilsterberg, Lausitzring, Falkenberg, Knutsdorp (OMG this one please!), Mantorp, Ningbo, Nogaro, Sachsenring, Salzburgring, Slovakia Ring, Assen, Motegi, Zheihang and Zhuhai.

i was just hoping that the Le Mans and LMP cars would not be a separate thing, or that the Le Mans would include at least two more French tracks.
One of the first comments about this here was that Le Mans was overpriced.(despite being only about 2/3rds of rF2's regular track price) But why two more French Tracks? If they are zeroing in on Endurance racing with this DLC there is Paul Ricard and then what? 3 tracks would be at least 30 US Dollars. What other track, French or not, would you want added?

Is there another developer selling two tracks (one being a 13 km track) for an average of 4.5 euros? Especially with laser scan data and the quality Reiza provides? If yes can you point it out to me?
Actually, Reiza themselves are selling each 2020 - 2022 dlc track for about 2,31 euros with the Season pass. Even at the full price of 90 euros you get 39 completely unique tracks (road, oval, dirt), counting Hockenheim 2001 as Unique, 1988 not as Unique, Silverstone Modern as Unique Silverstone 1970 also as Unique as examples.

Their original DLC pricing model was a totally sweet deal even at full price and a total steal for anyone who bought it on sale.

I do not play rF2 so that comparison means nothing to me. If the DLC should be focused on just Endurance tracks, then Le Mans, Sebring, maybe Fuji ? Or if two tracks with one historic variant then Le Mans and Sebring would be more worth it.

That is exactly the point: buying all the content in advance like it happened with the Season Pass (and now Paddock Club) will give you a better deal than buying every DLC on day 1 (and rightly so I would say). You should compare SP to the new Paddock Club not to the sale of a single DLC which is always meant to be more expensive then a bundle paid for upfront.

Nothing wrong with the first part of the post, I can agree with AMS2 not being the most popular game, but there's a chance that AC2 will be less popular than AC1.

If you don't like the game, then you can avoid buying the DLC. It's not rocket science, really. It's not about "supporting the studio"
It has already been stated that Reiza has made very good sales with the game already, and has been growing with the release of AMS2. Far from "keeping the studio afloat financially".
That‘s the thing with AC2, ACC got bought on the back of the good will from AC but ACC has been a pretty poor sim until it’s recent major physic/tyre/ffb overhaul and thats a game with a very narrow scope

AC2 will get bought intially in no small part due to the rose tinted glasses that people view AC 1 but there is no guarantee it will be any good.

D

So called "overhaul" was just some minor tweaks really, it was great already shortly after the release when they fixed initial snafu with the damper.
And for the narrow scope, it's the case of quality over quantity, reason it manages to scoop 5 times large playerbase than lots-a-stuff AMS2.

Have not thought about it, but makes sense, the track was actually in the beta for a very short time.

It's a bit on the expensive side IMO, but Le Mans has always been an expensive license, so it could be that. At least we also get the Bugatti layout too.
well you get the Bugatti Circuit as well, and historic layouts are also on the table.
On Iracing you pay 15, on RF2 11€ for a single track, no Bugatti and no historic layouts.

And also think the value of 7 Cars for 9€ is unmatched and needs to be mentioned more. you cant even buy 1 car for that on Iracing, yet even play it lol

I'm looking forward to it but their solution for degraded performance in night racing (VR) of adding an option to limit the number of visible cars seems completely backwards. Performance at night is at its BEST when you are at the BACK of the pack (most cars visible) and its at its WORST when you are at the FRONT of the back (least cars visible). This at least is the way it is in VR. Go ahead.. try it.. the evidence speaks for itself.

Luckily my setup is only effected in thunderstorm conditions at night and only into turn 1 if I am towards the front of the pack, thereafter its flat out 90fps so I guess I am not too bothered if it doesn't work, but still, seems an odd proposed solution given the test evidence.

I also have concerns about their shader work. The sparks are currently Mono and appear in only 1 eye in VR (which is very uncomfortable). I sure hope this is not the case with all the shader work they intend to do. VR issues are not being fixed at all so far and they make no mention of them being fixed by the new spark shader despite a lot of complaints about this on their very own forums. If their shaders start breaking VR, that will be a very bad move on their part.

Man if you write in every forum it will not become more true. Reiza has made tests internally and informed that opposite to what you say (and what they also expected) the performance was reduced not by the headlights pointing at you but from their reflections on all other cars.
People who tested in Beta signaled they got benefits from the new system. Wait and see, then comment once you can test whether you got benefits or not.

shhh be careful, if anyone from Reiza sees you giving AMS2 the slightest hint of criticism they'll send a constant barrage of flaming and hate towards your DMs. I really like AMS2 but the behaviour from Reiza when it comes to handling criticism leaves so much to be desired.

I completely agree...

Their forums are as toxic as they come... Post an issue and the devs get all defensive and the fans just pile on... And the Paddock club has been all about DLC and marketing... They spend more time selling the game than they do playing it...

Hence I don't have much faith in the future of this project... Major bugs just get ignored and we get half baked DLC and long marketing posts masquerading as dev reports...

Edit: nvm. I will wait and see

Reiza does everything out of passion. I am also on that forum for quite a while and there is nothing toxic going on there.

Reiza does close to nothing about sales, they have the worst marketing department in the gaming industry. They let their demo online on steam, while it hurts their sales massively. The demo is horrible, it doesn't represent the game at all.

So I don't follow a word of your negative message about Reiza here. It's a great team that does their upmost best to deliver a great sim for a very small niche market.

If they wanted to do something commercial, they would have chosen a completely different approach. I see your post as more toxic then anything that I've ever seen from Reiza.
