Dior announces partnership with Gran Turismo (and leaks next update date)


In a revelation that will surely raise some eyebrows, a collaboration between Gran Turismo and iconic french fashion luxury brand Dior was annouced prior to the racing action during the first day of Salzburg esport live event.

Dior's designers have worked on creating a set of racing gear to be added to the game, including a racing suit, gloves, boots and a helmet. The DeTomaso Mangusta has also been chosen as a base for a customized special edition of the car, which will be added in GT7 alongside the other items on August 25th, according to the official Gran Turismo statement - effectively leaking the next update's release date.

This collaboration seems unexpected, when a game like the upcoming Test Drive Unlimited : Solar Crown would have seemed like a much better fit for a high luxury fashion brand, since character customisation and luxury are staples of the TDU series. One can wonder now if the next Gran Turismo esport events will features players wearing Dior items.

Do you think a brand like this being introduced in simracing is a good or bad thing, or does it leave you uninterested ?

I bet Yamauchi's wife is quite happy with that deal, besides that I still don't see how it can be any relevant for anyone. What they're showing in the trailer isn't even aesthetically pleasing, they should get advice from some modders here who have a real sense of design.
 
I work hard for my money and I am sick as a chip of companies who have no interest in what I want. I don't want to join servers, to be held to ransom by in game transactions or be marketed to through a product I have bought, to pay any monthly subscriptions, to buy a game which is made worse AFTER I have given them my money.

I'm keeping my money and to hell with the lot of them. You know, this is why I love Reiza and smaller companies, modders I hold I high esteem and companies who are not following the fast buck trends. I loved GT so much but after GT6 I have gone elsewhere - I thought of every reason to buy a PS4 or Xbox but refused to buy a compatable wheel when the one I have should work. I'm taking my ball and going home! Long live Steam.
 
Forgive my ignorance, but in deals like this, who is paying whom for "features" like this? My assumption is Dior is paying, similar to companies sponsoring racing teams in exchange for advertisement on their cars/suits/helmets/etc?

If that's the deal, then I see no big problem with this...companies that have nothing to do with motorsport have been sponsoring motorsport for decades.

GT is a total joke
I did the right move leaving GT and PS after the Sony peripherals debacle and PDI middlefinger to GT6 users

I am a happy PC racer now and all there "news" about GT franchise make me even more happy for my choice

And if i want a simcade on PC i can always find FM or PCars that are better than GT cause they don't lie to their customers

It's a serious question...

I understand the 60's nostalgia they talk about in the video, to explain this... "full kind of package", was it? But this only makes sense as a marketing stunt. However, a succesful marketing stunt is based on research upon a target market, hence my question.

Perhaps the 1966 "Caprice" would have been a more suitable choice given the meaning of its name? :coffee:

At least, Richard Mille is a substantial sponsor of racing series the world over.
 
If the money brought by the brands keeps the developer afloat and enable them to further develop the title, it's all good.
 
With Fortnite or some other super widespread game it would make sense to make because a YouTuber would get it and plenty of gamers would follow in their footsteps. for GT7 tough... I doubt many people will waste money on a driver skin and an old car.

Since you can barely see the driver when its in the car, its dumb to pay money for a custom suit. Dior should've made a Fortnite skin since most players apparently love to buy skins.
