Grand Prix 4

Just choose English at the bottom of the page - not perfect, but easily manageable.

If registration, however, is an issue, then unfortunately I cannot help you.

But it's worth it, the trackpack is good, except Monza and Silverstone.

Never mind mods, never mind track packs: the game itself refuses to start. I finally managed to find a copy today and it installs fine, but then when I try to run it, it gets to the 'SafeDisc Macrovision' screen, then just goes black with a white cursor and stays that way until I kill the process. Has anyone got an idea what's happening? I've tried it on Compatibility settings with XP (does the same thing) and Win 98/Me (doesn't even get to the SafeDisc screen). This is really annoying, I was looking forwards to speeding around Phoenix chasing Senna again!

OK - update: I've got the game to run by playing around with the other compatibility settings (colours, resolution etc), but some of the car textures in game are messed up - this is with the game as is out of the box. I might try and install the 1991 mod just for the hell of it.:)

Another update: game's now working as God intended: textures are fine, everything is fine. Now to try installing the 1991 mod. :)

Nope - it won't play ball; getting all sorts of errors but I've followed the instructions to the letter. CBA to fiddle with it now - time for bed.

I've done all the updates and followed the instructions to the letter, but the mod won't run. Besides which, it appears that Phoenix and Mexico (two of my favourite 1991 tracks) aren't actually included yet.

As well as all that, I always get a 'trouble sending command to program' error when loading mods.

You have put in the decrypted.exe?

When does this error occur? When starting GpxPatch or in the game?

Yep, the game won't work at all without the decrypted exe for me. This happens after I have loaded a mod and I click the 'start' button. It converts everything OK (apart from Phoenix 1991.wad) and looks as though it's going to load, but then it throws up the error - open log? message. This also happens with the 1994 mod - there are no conversion problems with that one. And as I said, it also throws up a 'troube sending command to program' error when loading the mod.

Well, yes, seeing as you can't play mods or run the game stable(i.e. without GPXPatch) without the crack anyway. So you are running GP4.exe v1.02? You can see that in GPXpatch.

This game is a very sensitive beast, yes, very complicated. But once you get it running, it's awesome!

OK, I've tried everything I can think of. I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times, installing everything required and in the order required. I've tried following the instructions to the letter, I've tried other ways of following the instructions, I've tried loading tracks first and nothing works! What I need is a step by step Idiot's guide to how to get these mods to work. Which is annoying, because I can usually get game mods up and running without any help at all!!

I got these instructions from another forum:

Quick installation guide:

1. Install GP4 (full 770mb)
2. Install the official 9.6 patch
3. Install the decrypted 1.02 gp4.exe
4. Install GPxPatch 3.93
5. Run the game at least once and exit the game "saving the settings"!!! This is a must. Do not skip!!.
6. Install Zaz tools final version. Be sure to run it as Administrator in windows else it will not work!!!!!!,
7. The mods you downloaded are the .cuh files, just click on it and automatically the mod will install into csm.
8. The .tup files are the track packs, also click on the file and it will install automatically.
9. Once you get the game running if the car textures look white be sure to put HI in textures in the game.
Thats in menu Options-graphics-advanced graphics.

Cheers ;)

Airwick, you might have just found the missing link! There was nothing about running the game and saving the settings in the instructions provided with the mod. Thanks, at least now I have something new to try. :)

I agree Lars, i'm very hooked up to this game lately, playing crazily. Since my high school days i have been living a fantasy F1 world and came to 2090 yesterday, and i have started at 2008! :) Totally addicted right now. It's great for playing with keyboard too.

Only problem is unexpected crashes and freezes

Just installed my old GP4 V1.0 and tried it using the DFGT wheel and pedals. Steering input works but doesn't recognize the pedals. Is it simply too old to recognize it or is there a patch for modern controllers/wheels?

Thanks

Well i got a G27 wheel at works wonders with Gp4. Im about 6 tenths faster than my previous wheel witch was logitech Momo and worked great too.
A friend of mine has a G25 and works properly too.

Its tricky to install the wheels but once done its a blast and full of joy.

If you need more info send me a PM.

Was easy, and I have a DFGT. Does your computer recognise your pedals at all?

Hi,
Yeah works fine on Race 07, GSC etc. I gave up thinking it simply wasn't compatible but now I know it is, I'll persevere. Thanks for the replies :)

Complete Info:

  1. Ensure that the wheel is set up for separate axes in the control panel at ID1 in game controllers.
  2. Start GP4
  3. GP4 seems to be reading the control axes data to navigate the menus. This can lead to scrolling/flickering of the menus. According to some info in the news groups this behaviour can be disabled as follows:-
    -- Goto "main menu"->"workshop"->"utilities"->"menu setup"
    --
    Un-check "shows tooltips"
  4. Now it is time to assign the various axes in the game.
    -- Goto "main menu"->"options"->"controls"
  5. There are several ways to do this. The method outlined here involves creating what GP4 calls a "user set".
    -- Click "advanced"
    --
    Click "choose control method"
    --
Click on one of the "Not Used" user sets
-- When prompted for the type of controller select "wheel"
    --
You can optionally enter a name for the control set being created
  6. The next step involves assigning each of the axis in the user set as follows

    To assign steering :-

    -- Click "steering"
-- Click "steering device" drop down list on the right hand side
-- Select controller A from the list, a new window will open
    -- Select the "X Axis"
    -- Click "ok"
    To assign accelerate :-

    -- Click "accelerate/brake"
-- Click "acceleration device" drop down list on the right hand side
-- Select "Controller A" from the list, a new window will open
    -- Select the "Z Axis"
    -- Click "ok"
    To assign brake :-

    -- Click "accelerate/brake"
-- Click "acceleration device" drop down list on the right hand side
-- Select "Controller A" from the list, a new window will open
    -- Select the "IRZ Axis"
    -- Click "ok"

You can "save" the file if required.
  7. The next step is to "calibrate". Follow the instructions displayed by the game
